Most people can lose fat at 0.5 to 1% of bodyweight a week without sacrificing muscle. For an 80 kg adult that is roughly 0.4 to 0.8 kg a week, so a 10 kg goal honestly takes about 3 to 6 months. This calculator turns your own baseline and commitment level into a realistic timeline.
The scale reports one number for four different tissues: water, glycogen, muscle and fat. In the first week of a deficit the number drops fast, and most of it is water and stored glycogen leaving, not fat. Then it slows, and that is where most attempts die, because the expectation was set by week one. Over a full diet, the question that matters is not how much weight you lose but what the loss is made of. Lose 8 kg with 2 kg of it muscle and you are lighter, weaker and easier to regain into. Lose 8 kg of mostly fat while keeping your muscle and you have actually changed your body. Nothing here is a black box. Your resting energy expenditure comes from the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, scaled to maintenance by an activity multiplier that matches your training frequency, held deliberately conservative for desk-bound schedules. Your chosen diet commitment sets the deficit, capped so weekly loss never exceeds 1% of bodyweight, the rate above which lean mass starts going with the fat. Weeks to goal are then simulated at roughly 7,700 kcal per kg lost, recalculating as your weight falls, with a slower bound that allows for metabolic adaptation.
