How the first step works

Why personal training here starts with a call

Choosing a personal trainer is hard. You are trusting someone with your body, your time and years of your health, usually before you have seen how they actually work. Our team is among the most experienced in Singapore, and that experience taught us what most studios skip: credentials get a coach in the room, but the rapport and whether the place genuinely fits you are what decide whether the work lasts.

So we keep the first step low-friction: a complimentary 30-minute video call, face to face, no commitment beyond your time. If it is a fit, your in-studio assessment follows, sixty minutes with your four pillars measured.

From SGD 163.50 per session, no membership required.

The four pillar assessment and healthspan score helped me see exactly where I was starting from. I feel stronger, move better and actually look forward to training now.

The coaches took time to assess my mobility, balance and grip strength before we even touched heavier weights. The focus is always on safe progression and long term health, not trying to destroy me every session.

Longevity personal training overview

Longevity Personal Training · Singapore CBD

Singapore has one of the longest life expectancies in the world, about 84 years. But healthspan, the years lived in good functional and cognitive health, has not kept pace. The average Singaporean spends roughly 10 years in poor health at the end of life, much of it driven by conditions that are preventable or delayable through resistance training, cardiorespiratory conditioning, stability work, and good body composition.

Catalyst Performance was built to close that gap. We are a longevity personal training gym in Singapore CBD that measures the four physical pillars the exercise science literature consistently identifies as healthspan predictors, and trains them, deliberately, year over year.

Our clients aren't training for a beach holiday. They are training for the version of themselves that exists in 10, 20, and 30 years, the one who can still climb stairs without thinking, lift their grandchildren, walk 30km without needing a recovery week, and live independently into their 80s.

Singapore life expectancy is roughly 84 years, but the average Singaporean spends around a decade in poor health at the end. The four pillars train the systems that close that gap.

How our personal trainer for longevity works
Personal trainer for longevity at Catalyst

Body Composition (SMI + WHtR), your personal trainer's first pillar

We measure Skeletal Muscle Index, the appendicular muscle that walks, climbs, and catches you when you fall, and Waist-to-Height Ratio, a stronger predictor of metabolic disease than BMI. Calibrated for Asian populations using AWGS 2019 cutoffs.

Longevity personal training, Singapore CBD

Cardiorespiratory Fitness (HRR), the personal training engine

Heart Rate Recovery from a 3-minute step test. The single strongest all-cause mortality predictor in exercise science (Mandsager 2018, n=122,000), and a direct readout of autonomic nervous system health.

Personal trainer for longevity at Catalyst

Stability (Y-Balance Test), coached by your personal trainer

Lower-quarter Y-Balance to catch the asymmetries that predict falls and joint injury long before they become symptoms. Falls are the leading cause of injury death after age 65, stability is what prevents them.

Longevity personal training, Singapore CBD

Strength (Grip + 3 MPSA), the personal training lever

Grip strength dynamometer (alone, one of the strongest mortality predictors ever identified, Celis-Morales 2018, n=500,000) plus three movement patterns: Front Foot Elevated Split Squat, Seated DB Shoulder Press, Neutral Grip Lat Pulldown.

Healthspan Score (0-10), how personal training is measured

Your four pillar scores combined into a single number. Equally weighted at 25% each, a deliberate choice that forces us to confront every pillar, not let strength compensate for stability or vice versa.

Longevity personal training, Singapore CBD

16-week personal training Checkpoint

Every 16 weeks, we re-test the same metrics. Programmes adjust based on what changed, not what we assumed. Long enough for adaptations to register, short enough to course-correct before drift.

Why Catalyst

01

Healthspan is the metric, the look comes with it, personal trainer for longevity

Most personal training gyms in Singapore optimise for what looks good in 12 weeks. Catalyst optimises for what predicts how well you'll age, the four pillars that the longevity research consistently identifies as healthspan predictors. Lean body composition, low visceral fat, fast heart-rate recovery, symmetric stability, and meaningful muscle reserve are all things that make a person age well. They also, incidentally, make a person look better. Aesthetics are a downstream consequence, never the primary goal.

02

Built on Asian-population reference ranges, not Western ones, personal trainer for longevity

Reference ranges derived from North American or European cohorts do not translate cleanly to Asian bodies. Asians tend to carry a higher proportion of body fat and visceral fat at any given BMI, have smaller absolute muscle mass at any given stature, and show metabolic risk at lower waist circumferences. We use the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS) 2019 cutoffs as safety flags, alongside global percentile data, so your numbers are interpreted against a population that actually looks like you.

03

Re-tested every 16 weeks, in the open, personal trainer for longevity

Most personal training gyms in Singapore measure progress in 'how you feel' or 'how you look in the mirror', both unreliable, both easy to gaslight yourself about. The 16-week Checkpoint produces hard numbers, walked through with you in person, with a Healthspan Score that you can compare against your baseline. Progress is data, not vibes, and the cadence is deliberate: long enough for real adaptations to register, short enough to course-correct before drift.

04

Coaches trained to programme for decades, not deadlines, personal trainer for longevity

Every coach at Catalyst Performance is trained in the same 4-Pillar framework and programmes for healthspan first. Our team brings over 30 years of combined coaching experience, including a co-founder with a medical degree (MBBS), and we audit our methods against new research as the science updates. The relationship is meant to last decades, not a transformation cycle.

Longevity personal training, common questions

Q. 01, longevity personal training

What is "healthspan" and why does our personal training focus on it?

Healthspan, by our definition, is the number of years you live with good quality of life, free from physical and mental limitations, so you can do what you love and live fully until the end. It is important because we believe pursuing healthspan is the number one priority and mission in life. From our collective experiences, everything else seems to matter until health is the only thing that matters.

Q. 02, longevity personal training

Why does Catalyst focus personal training so much on healthspan?

With over 30 years of combined coaching experience with people from all walks of life, we've learned that living longer is only meaningful if you remain strong, mobile, and independent. That is why at Catalyst, we help you not just add years to your life, but life to your years.

Q. 03, longevity personal training

What's the ultimate goal of the Catalyst System of personal training?

To help you age with capability, not decline. Looking good comes with the work, a stop on the journey; the true mission is to give you the strength, stability, and health to enjoy life fully today and decades into the future.

Q. 04, longevity personal training

How often do I get reassessed by my personal trainer?

You are assessed at baseline, reassessed at week 16, and then every 16 weeks. This 16-week Checkpoint cadence allows us to track your progress across body composition, cardiorespiratory fitness, stability, and strength, so your programme always reflects your current capability.

Q. 05, longevity personal training

Do I need to be fit before starting personal training?

No. The assessments are designed to be safe, scalable, and repeatable for beginners, older adults, and those with health considerations. We meet you where you are and progress from there.

Q. 06, longevity personal training

What personal training should someone in their 40s in Singapore do now to stay strong for the next twenty years?

Start strength training two to three times a week and measure a baseline you can re-test. Adults lose roughly 8 percent of their muscle each decade after 40, so the work now is holding and building it. Catalyst Performance measures body composition, cardiorespiratory fitness, stability and strength, then re-tests every 16 weeks so the trend is visible.

Q. 07, longevity personal training

How many times a week should I strength train with a personal trainer to keep muscle after 40?

Two to three sessions a week is enough to hold and build muscle after 40, provided the load progresses and protein sits at 1.6 to 2.2 g per kg of bodyweight daily. More sessions only help if you recover from them. Catalyst Performance re-tests skeletal muscle mass every 16 weeks, so you can see whether it is working.

Q. 08, longevity personal training

What should someone in their 40s look for in a personal trainer in Singapore?

Look for measurable healthspan tracking, not just weight loss: baseline strength, heart-rate recovery, stability and body composition, re-tested regularly. Catalyst Performance uses a 4-Pillar Healthspan Assessment calibrated to Asian reference ranges, with 1:1 coaching and MBBS-credentialed oversight of programming.

Q. 09, longevity personal training

How is personal training for healthspan different from training for weight loss?

Weight loss targets a number on the scale over weeks. Healthspan training builds the muscle, heart-rate recovery, stability, and body composition that keep you strong and independent for decades. At Catalyst Performance, the look comes with the work: a stop on the journey, not the destination.
